Aaron's Story

I was born in Sheridan Wyoming where I also first attended church with my family and developed a belief in God and began praying to Him at a young age.  Upon moving to Laramie Wyoming in early grade school, we were periodic visitors to church, but it was never a consistent part of our lives.  My first exposure to FCA was at Laramie Junior High as a freshman, where I occasionally attended the 7 am morning meetings.  However, it was not until early high school that I understood what it meant to truly be a Christian and began my relationship with Jesus Christ.  We had begun attending Laramie Valley Chapel, where we developed a relationship with the pastor who served as the weight coach and volunteer assistant football coach for my brother and I's high school football team.  During one of his messages we were challenged with the statement, "If you were to die tonight, do you know where you would be spending eternity?"  I realized I did not know.  I had been a pretty good individual who did not get into a lot of trouble, but for the first time I realized that Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection, and my acceptance of his gift of forgiveness was the only way I could have eternal life.  I realized that Jesus Christ had died for sinners, such as myself, and I prayed to receive Jesus as my Savior and Lord.  From this point on my life slowly began to change with new desires and convictions, and I again got involved in FCA during my senior year of high school.
After graduating in 1997 the Lord led me to decline an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.  I accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Wyoming, where I got more involved in my church and also UW FCA and really grew in my faith. God had truly transformed my life and even gave me a desire to reach out to my football teammates through a Bible study and eventually led me to serve as UW FCA president.  I also met my wife Stacy through FCA, which she began attending in 2001.  While we didn't actually start dating until after I graduated, our relationship developed as we served together in FCA as well as our local church.  It was also in college that I attended my first FCA camp in Powell Wyoming serving as a football huddle leader, and have been back to camp every since as a huddle leader, camp director, and now huddle leader coordinator.
After graduating from college in 2002 with a degree in Civil Engineering, I never would have expected to work full time in Christian ministry, but have discovered that God has a plan for me, to prosper me and not to harm me--to give me a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).  Soon after graduating God made it clear to me that I should serve him in full time ministry rather than pursue a career in Civil Engineering.   Rather than building roads and bridges I was excited to build into people's lives for eternity.  As FCA's Southeast Wyoming Area Representative, with a focus at the University of Wyoming, I have the opportunity to do just that.  Stacy and I were married in 2004 and in 2006 she came onto part time staff with FCA as well, focusing on the women's ministry at UW.  We have two son's Fisher (almost 4) and Boone (2) as well as a daughter on the way (April).  We continue to be excited about the opporunity God has given us to serve through the ministry of FCA, using the platform of athletics to reach people around the state, nation and even world, with the good news of Jesus Christ.
