Camp Themes

FCA Camp Themes play an important role in uniting camp, staff, volunteers, and campers.  Go here to check out past themes for every camp since 1956!

For FCA's 62nd season, the 2019 FCA Camps theme is “Let’s Go” based on Matthew 28: 18-20:

“18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Faces of FCA Camps

Campers and Student Athletes

Student Athletes who attend as campers will experience a week full of personal growth and challenges - spiritually, socially, and physically - from our Camp curriculum, meetings and huddle (selected teammate groups) to individual quiet times.

At our Spearfish Sports Camp, campers will especially face opportunities to encounter Jesus not only in worship and fellowship settings, but also on the courts and in the fields. Competition can be intense at Sports camp! And with our excellent coaching and instruction they will be pushed to the next level in their sport.

This gives campers and Christian athletes a tremendous lesson in practicing character and glorifying God in everything they do.

Huddle Leaders

College students athletes play a vital role in our camp's success and impacting campers. The Huddle Leaders must apply for the position, so they can be vetted to ensure quality leadership.

In addition to their leadership role, Huddle Leaders will learn from training session and activities how to lead individually as a Christian and athlete,  and at the same time, uniting together to work that week of camp

Coaches and Their Families

Our Spearfish Sports Camp provides coaches, along with their families, an opportunity to grow in leadership skills and their walk with Jesus as a Christian Coach.  The coaches give their all during the week of camp to push student athletes to next level and practice character on the fields and in the courts. Bonus, the children's ministry allows their families to spend the week under the care of staff, with fun activities, crafts and more!

Camp Chaplain and Worship Band

Team Chapels, Huddle meetings, and other events provide campers with Biblical perspectives and resources to overcome obstacles student athletes face in school and on the field.  With Team Chapels, Huddle leaders have been known to do some fun "Ice Breakers" and "Team Builders." In addition, the worship bands help campers unite under a time of worship together.

This year we are blessed to have Team Chaplain for the Denver Broncos - Reza Zadeh lead as our Camp Chaplain! What an amazing testimony he has to share with campers.

Volunteers and Staff

FCA Camp is a success in thanks to our many, many volunteers and exceptional staff. Everyone works hard all week to ensure a great camp experience for everyone. From Camp Director to Children's Ministry coordinator, all FCA volunteers commit their time to make camp amazing.

History of FCA Camps

In 1956, the vision and mission of Fellowship of Christian Athletes Founders became real with the first national FCA Camp in the Rockies.

Did you know that the first FCA camp almost did not happen?

Here is the story from FCA Timeline:

Don McClanen, the original founder and executive directors, had envisioned a full camp, reserving rooms for 500 people (450 which were student athltes).  However, when Gary Demarest, the camp's Dean, had arrived at the airport to pick up Branch Ricky, Demarest shared with Ricky his deep concerns about the camp's outcome.

Only 38 reservations had been made!

“Don’t forget,” Rickey told Demarest on their way to Estes from Denver, “Jesus started with 12!”

(From Wayne Atcheson’s book, “Impact for Christ.”)

And he was right...the first night of camp, two hundred and fifty-six attendees showed up to hear Branch Rickey's keynote address and FCA's camp ministry officially began.

Listen to Branch Rickey’s keynote address here

Since then, campers, coaches, volunteers, staff, guest speakers, from around the world have shown up to FCA Camps. Just look at the numbers:

113,470  Camp Attendees

17,783 Certified Huddles

62 Countries

We cannot wait to see who shows up to FCA Camps this year! #FCALETSGOBLACKHILLS

Legacy of FCA Camps

FCA Camps help student athletes in so many ways, but most importantly, we want our Camps to develop the WHOLE person. Spiritually. Mentally. Socially. Physically.  We want campers to leave camp feeling empowered, transformed, and impacted by their time there.

Furthermore, we see the rally cry of Jesus and our camp theme "Let's Go!" as a call for student athletes and coaches to go back to their campuses and teams for a new school year to serve, lead, and share the Good News of Jesus.

Lastly, we hope that FCA campers will return to camp each year.  We want student athletes to continue to grow in their sport, athletic skills, and their walk with Jesus. And we believe FCA Camps will do just that!

Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and visionary givers (donors) whose commitment to Christ and passion for Sport has led you to give your time and resources to invest in Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Wyoming.
