A team from the Rocky Mountain FCA Region, including Wyoming State Director Ernie Mecca and Regional International Coordinator Aaron Frude, recently returned from a trip to the South Pacific that included stops in the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. In the Philippines, the first objective was to provide coaches training, emphasizing the differences between being a christian coach and being a coach who happens to be a Christian. Ernie was integral in this training, which also introduced 3Dimensional Coaching, which focuses on coaching not only the bodies, but the heart of athletes. About this training Ernie said, "I was amazed, inspired and challenged by these coaches' hearts for God and their hunger and desire to be a Christian Coach with a kingdom purpose as one of God's coaches."
The team also had the opportunity to participate in the first multi-sport sports team in Cebu Philippines, where Ernie served as a basketball coach. Over half of the 120 campers indicated making a first time commitment to follow Jesus Christ!
Before heading to Davao for the Summit FCA Training, Ernie had the opportunity to speak at a small home church in the neighborhood of a Filipino slum. This was very impacting for Ernie as he reported, "I have never witnessed such a heart and love for Jesus in corporate worship...we have so much and they have so little...These 90 minutes spent worshipping and praying with these Filipinos in this home was without a doubt one of the main reasons God brought me to the Philippines."
Once in Davao, the team participated in the annual FCA Philippines FCA staff and volunteer training, reporting and business meeting. Of this time, Ernie observed, "they are able to do so much ministry with little to no resources and with a passion and fire for the ministry's vision and mission...I have been challenged as an FCA Ministry Director beyond anything I could have imagined."
From Davao, Aaron and two other team members flew to Australia and then to New Zealand to help followup with and promote future ministry in these areas. A more detailed report of those trips coming soon!
